Arash Derambarsh

City councellor, Courbevoie

BACKGROUND/ Academic and professional background

Graduated in Law, publisher at Editions du Cherche midi, councellor of the City of Courbevoie.

ACHIEVEMENT/ What is your project, initiative, start-up, company all about?

I made the French Parliament vote for a historic law compelling supermarkets to cede unsold but still edible articles to the charitable organizations they want, thanks to field work with volunteers and a petition I started with the French actor Mathieu Kassovitz (more than 210 000 signatures).

LOCATION/ In which city, country, part of the world do you conduct your activities?

The law has already been acted in France. My goal now is to influe at the European level. To do so, we started to work on the “European citizen intiative” process which allows, according to the operative Lisbon Treaty, to act a law if one gathers 1 billions signatures from 1/4 of the EU countries.

IMPACT/ What is the positive economic, social, political, environmental… of your activity, project, initiative, start-up, company?

40 kg of edible food (the equivalent of 500€) could be saved everyday in each supermarket and distributed to around 100 persons.

QUOTE/ A saying, quote or reference phrase that tells something about you

« It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare that things are difficult. » Seneca
