Bernadette Segol, born in Luzech, France, holds a Master of Philosophy, and mother of four children. She holds the position of General Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) from the Athens Congress in May 2011. ETUC represents 83 unions in 36 European countries and 12 sectoral federations.
From 2000 to 2010, Ségol was at the head of UNI Europa, the federation of services and communication, which represents 7 million workers and 330 affiliated unions. In particular, it supported the creation of more than 200 European Works Councils, assisting in their operation. She fought for legislation on temporary work, involving dialogue with employers to obtain a better legislative framework in the European Union. She is particularly involved to strengthen unions affiliated countries of Central and Eastern candidate countries and to facilitate their inclusion in the European Union work and promote trade union rights. One of his fights is for equal pay in Europe.
