Gautier Quéru

Investment Director and LDN Fund project leader at Mirova (Natixis Group)

BACKGROUND / Professional and educational background:

 

Gautier has 12 years of experience in financial innovation in the environmental sector within Natixis bank:

  • He joined Natixis in 2004 to launch the European Carbon Fund (ECF), a €140 million investment fund dedicated to projects to reduce CO2 emissions. From 2004 to 2013, Gautier acted successively as investment manager, portfolio manager and fund director of ECF.
  • From 2013 to 2015, he was investment director within the renewable energy fund team of Mirova, to develop the Eurofideme fund (€ 350 million) targeting wind and solar projects in Europe.
  • Since January 2016, he has been leading the LDN Fund project, co-promoted by Mirova and the UN Convention on Desertification.

Prior to joining Natixis, Gautier started his career at the French Ministry of Economy, in the Energy division.

 

Gautier is an engineer specialised in environment and energy and is also a graduate of Sciences Po Paris.

 

 

ACHIEVEMENT / What does the project/initiative/startup/company you will be presenting at the Positive Economy Forum consist of?

The Land Degradation Neutrality Fund, initiated by the UN Convention on Desertification and implemented by Mirova, is a public-private fund initiative in the making. It brings together several institutions committed to addressing the global challenge of land degradation (SDG 15.3). The Fund is designed to provide long term financing and technical assistance to large-scale land rehabilitation project, for sustainable and productive use, mainly in the field of agriculture and forestry worldwide. In line with the Addis Abeba Action Agenda, the fund is intended to mobilize public and private capital to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

 

LOCATION / Where do you lead your project/company (city, region and country)? 

The LDN Fund will finance projects worldwide, and mainly in developing countries.

 

IMPACT / How do you evaluate the economic, social, politic and environmental impact of your project / action?

Mirova offers a fundamental conviction-driven investment approach in order to combine value creation with sustainable development. Mirova has a responsible investment research team offering complementary expertise united around a shared philosophy, and which develops methodologies for social and environmental impact analysis of investment. This approach consist in analysing the environmental and social aspects of key sustainability issues by sector. This process adopts a life-cycle approach to the environment and the consideration of social issues involving stakeholders, taking into account both risks and opportunities on an absolute rather than a relative basis.
