Ghislain de Marsily

Professor, Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Ecole des Mines de Paris, Académie des sciences, Académie des technologies

Ghislain de Marsily is emeritus professor. Member of the French Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Technologies, the Academia Europaea, and Foreign Associate of the US National Academy of Engineering.

Graduated as a mining engineer, he taught Hydrology at the Paris School of Mines and later Applied Geology at the Pierre-&-Marie-Curie University.

His research interests include groundwater resources and protection, waste disposal, global water resources and sustainable development.

In developing or developed countries, water problems require both a global and local approach. With his students, he worked in Europe, Africa, India, China, the United States, Mexico, Equador, Brasil, etc.

Understanding of the functioning of local or regional hydrosystems (water resources, associated ecosystems, water use, pollution, water and wastes management, hydrosystem protection); water problems at the World scale, particularly feeding a planet of 10 billion inhabitants.
