Ghislain de Marsily is emeritus professor. Member of the French Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Technologies, the Academia Europaea, and Foreign Associate of the US National Academy of Engineering.
Graduated as a mining engineer, he taught Hydrology at the Paris School of Mines and later Applied Geology at the Pierre-&-Marie-Curie University.
