Senior Advisor to UN Secretary-General on Climate Change, United Nations

BACKGROUND / Academic and professional background :

In 2015-2016 was Assistant Secretary-General on Climate Change in the United Nations, supporting the UN Secretary-General BAN Ki-moon in his contribution to the success of the UN Conference on Climate Change in Paris in December 2015.

During 2012-2014 acted as Executive Director for Conservation at WWF International.  2010 to 2012 was Executive Secretary of the UN Secretary-General’s High-level Panel on Global Sustainability.

In the period 1979 – 2007 I worked for various UN and NGO organizations, including WCC, UNEP, UNFCCC, SEI and the UN Secretariat.

ACHIEVEMENT/ What is the project/initiative/startup/company you will be presenting at the Positive Economy Forum all about ?

The Paris Agreement was a decisive step forward in combating climate change.  I was honored to be able to contribute to its success.

LOCATION / In which city, country, part of the world do you conduct your activities ?

Based in Switzerland, but active worldwide.

IMPACT / What is the positive economic, social, political, environmental…of the activity, project, initiative, startup, company ?

The Paris Agreement has sent a strong signal to the markets and to the private sector about the low-carbon direction the world has decided to take.

Paris was difficult, but it was the easy part.  Now comes the hard part, the implementation of the agreement: serious reduction of emissions, adaptation to changes in the climate and building climate-resilient economies.
