Founder, WHOLE WORLD Water
BACKGROUND/ Academic and professional background
B.A. in English Literature, University of Michigan, former Managing Director of DDB Worldwide, Founder Kontentreal, an award winning documentary filmmaking company based in NYC.
ACHIEVEMENT/ What is your project, initiative, start-up, company all about?
WHOLE WORLD Water is a social enterprise that seeks innovative solutions to the world’s water crisis. One tactic is to unite the travel and tourism industry to filter their own water at source, bottle it in reusable glass bottles, and donate 10% of the proceeds to the WHOLE WORLD Water Fund. 100% of the proceeds are invested in clean & safe drinking water initiatives worldwide. Due to the size of the Travel & Tourism industry (multi-trillion), this initiative has the capacity to raise millions, if not a billion dollars to eradicate this issue. More importantly, we function as an investor, not an implementer and are exploring other methodologies to further the funds we are able to invest. One mechanism we are looking into is Development Impact Bonds, among other things.
LOCATION/ In which city, country, part of the world do you conduct your activities?
We have offices in London and NYC, but have members on every continent and to-date have invested in projects in Madagascar, Uganda, Cambodia, Kenya & India.
IMPACT/ What is the positive economic, social, political, environmental… impact of your activity, project, initiative, start-up, company?
We feel that data is a THE Holy Grail. We mandate that the projects we invest in use the mWater app which is a free mobile app. Through this app we are able to capture and aggregate baseline data that aligns with the JMP’s. We further analyze/ evolve this data capture through our partnership with PwC where as we are able to, over time monetize the impact of our invest through 4 material impact areas: education, health, environment, economy. We feel this will bring in other social impact investors, as well as government support.
