BACKGROUND / Academic and professional background

Mathieu Nebra is an engineer (EFREI). He founded OpenClassrooms a year before completing his studies and since then, he is fully dedicated to this activity.


ACHIEVEMENT/ What is the project, initiative, startup, company you will be presenting at the Positive Economy Forum about?

“Our mission at OpenClassrooms is to make training accessible for everyone. Our work is centered on employability: we help people to find a job and to keep it, thanks to trainings that allow them to be always up-to-date.”


LOCATION / In which city, country, part of the world do you conduct your activities?

“We have a global impact given that our courses and trainings are available online. The majority of users comes from the French-speaking world (60% in France , 40% in the rest of the world, including Belgium, Canada, Switzerland, Gabon, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Senegal…). We are currently expanding our impact on the UK and Spanish markets.”


IMPACT / What is the economic, social, political, environmental or positive impact of the activity, project, initiative, startup, company?

“Our impact is clearly on employment. We have already trained hundred thousand people over the 17 years of the website. The people we meet thank us for giving them a taste for digital and say “if I have succeeded, it’s thanks to you.” They either work in big companies like Google or have created of their own startups.

For example, Paul Duan told me that he started on the website many years ago.

99% of students in the digital field in France know us and use our platform as a complement or a replacement of their traditional courses.”
