BACKGROUND / Academic and professional background
Master in International Legal Studies, with additional studies in Government and Public Policies. Through her professional experience with the Organization of American States (OAS), Amnesty International USA, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia and MANÁ, she has focus on international cooperation for social public policies and programs.
ACHIEVEMENT/ What is your project, initiative, start-up, company all about?
The main objective of MANA is to improve the food and nutrition situation of the most vulnerable population of Antioquia. The model is executed by projects such as agricultural development, food complementation, nutritional recovery, nutritional vigilance, public policies and education on food security and nutrition.
LOCATION/ In which city, country, part of the world do you conduct your activities?
Department of Antioquia, Colombia and its 125 municipalities.
IMPACT/ What is the positive economic, social, political, environmental…of the activity, project, initiative, start-up, company?
-We have reduced the percentage of homes with food insecurity
-Between 2012 and 2013 we have implemented more than 19.147 family gardens. We are planning to implement 35.000 before 2015
-We have reduced mortality rate due to malnutrition and the prevalence of global and acute malnutrition in children under 5 years old
-We provide each year food complementation to 350.000 children under 14 years old
