Patrick Deixonne

Sailor, Explorer & Mission leader, 7th Continent Expeditions

BACKGROUND/ Academic and professional background

Patrick Deixonne is born in February, 1965, and spent his childhood sailing between Sigean and Guissan (France). At the age of 18, he leaves the marine world to join the Firefighters Brigade of Paris before being transfered to the French Guyana spacebase. During four years he explores the territory in the middle of Amazonia. Forced to come back in Paris, he keeps learning to sail in French Britanny.

But he misses Guyana and decides to settle there as soon as he can leave his job at the Firefighters Brigade of Paris. Once back in Amazonia, he attends a training to become a local travel guide. Then, he regularly participates to forest expeditions for scientific purposes and collaborates with the French Institute of Research and Development (IRD) for oceanographic expeditions on board of the “Antéa”. He espacially worked on the “Sciences travelers” mission and contributed to several documentary-film shootings. He also travels to the French Antilles as professional skipper.

He gets into the Society of French explorers in 2009, recommended by Patrice Franceschi, Captain of “Le Boudeuse”, met in Guyana during the “Ocean Earth” exploration mission, as well as Stéphane Lévin with who he worked during the “Sciences travelers” mission.

Loving the sea, loving Guyana, it was natural that Patrick Deixonne has to participate to the first transatlantic single-handed rowing race without assistance between Senegal and Guyana in order to gather his two passions. This race allowed him to evaluate the mankind’s activities impact on the oceans and proove that a 7th continent exists in order to raise awarness on this issue.
