ACHIEVEMENT/ What is your project/ initiative/startup/company all about?

I worked for the group Work on Waste, USA 1985 -2000. This group fought the building of incinerators in the USA and worked for alternative solutions. Since 2000 this work has shifted to the promotion of Zero Waste for Sustainability under the umbrella of the American Environmental Health Studies Project (AEHSP) see www.AmericanHealthStudies.org

Also since 2000 I have been the director of the Fluoride Action Network, which also functions under umbrella of the American Environmental Health Studies Project (AEHSP) but with its own dedicated website www.FluorideALERT.org

My work has been summarized in two books. The Case Against Fluoride…by Connett, Beck and Micklme (Chelsea Green, 2010) and The Zero Waste Solution…(Chelsea Green, 2013).

LOCATION/ In which city, country, part of the world do you conduct your activities?

Binghamton, NY

IMPACT/ What is the positive economic, social, political, environmental…of the activity, project, initiative, startup, company?

My work has helped a number of communities reject incineration proposals, end or reject fluoridation schemes and others to pioneer Zero Waste programs, particularly in Italy

QUOTE/ A saying, quote or reference phrase that tells something about you

“If we can’t reuse it, recycle it or compost it, industry shouldn’t be making it.”
“God rRcycles, the Devil Burns!”
“Make Love, Not Waste” (or “Make Friends Not Waste”)
“Water Fluoridation is Unusual (most countries don’t do it); Unnatural (the level in mothers milk is extremely low): Unethical (it violates the individual’s right to informed consent to human or medical treatment); Unsafe (fluoride causes dental fluorosis; causes arthritic-like symptoms; make bones more brittle; lowers thyroid function and has been associated with lower IQ in children) and Unnecessary (fluoride is not a nutrient and if it fights tooth decay at all it works largely topically not systemically).”
