Sebastião Salgado

Sebastião Salgado, born February 8, 1944 at Aimorés, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, is an economist by training. He began his photographic career in Paris in 1973, he worked with several agencies until 1994, when Wanick with Lelia Salgado, they founded the news agency Amazonas images, exclusively devoted to his photographic work.
He traveled in more than 100 countries for his photographic projects that, in addition to numerous publications in the press, for the most part were then presented in books such as Other Americas (1986), Sahel, the man in distress (1986) , the hand of man (1993), Terra (1997), and exodus exodus children (2000) and Africa (2007). Traveling exhibitions of this work have been and continue to be made throughout the world.
Together, Sebastião and Lelia working since 1990 to recover the environment of a small part of the Atlantic Forest in Brazil. They made nature a parcel of land they owned, and in 1998 they transformed this land into a nature reserve and created the Instituto Terra with a mission reforestation and environmental education.
Sebastião Salgado has received numerous awards, it is a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF, and an honorary member of The Academy of Arts and Science in the United States.
