President, Action Against Hunger
BACKGROUND / Academic and professional background
Stephanie Rivoal studied at Louis-Le-Grand and later graduated from ESSEC business school.
At 22, she started her career in investment banking in London where she spent ten years and then at Goldman Sachs, Crédit Agricole – Lazard and JP Morgan.
Then, she radically changed her life and devoted herself to photography since 2003.
In 2005, her desire to be useful to others lead her to engage with Action Against Hunger and she left on a mission in Darfur as program coordinator.
She discovers a complex context and the humanitarian environment. She also committed in Lebanon during the 2006 war with Israel, where she created the ACF mission. From these experiences she has images and a testimony book on Darfur. She settled down to France to raise her three children, but continues her commitment with Action Against Hunger on the Board of Directors. Stephanie Rivoal ACF France became president in 2013 after being a member of the board of ACF since 2007, Treasurer and Vice President.
She regularly visits the field, Burkina Faso, Liberia, Burma or Ethiopia to be in contact with the teams and have a better understanding of the humanitarian challenges on the field.
ACHIEVEMENT/ What is your project, initiative, start-up, company all about?
Born from the emergency of Afghan refugees in Pakistan in 1979, fleeing the fighting, Action against Hunger (ACF) was founded by a group of French intellectuals in order to eradicate hunger globally, durably and efficiently in the world.
While so far, the fight against hunger was integrated into broader fighting (fight against poverty, struggle for health, etc.), the founders created an organization specialized on issues of hunger.
Her mission is to save lives through prevention, detection and treatment of malnutrition, especially during and after emergency situations and conflict. She focuses her work on an integrated approach, taking into account various sectors: Nutrition, health care practices – Food security and livelihoods – Water, Sanitation and Hygiene – Advocacy and Awareness.
Stephanie Rivoal main goal for Action Against Hunger is to encourage the association to develop the technical and cultural innovations needed to continue having an impact on the humanitarian world of tomorrow.

In 2014, the Network of Action against Hunger helped nearly 13.6 million victims of hunger around the world in the 46 countries of operation in Africa, the Middle East, Asia mainly.

- 4 areas: nutrition, health and care practices, food security and livelihoods, water, sanitation and hygiene, advocacy and awareness.
- 2,997,097 beneficiaries of our programs “Nutrition, Health and care practices”.
Including 101,640 beneficiaries of a treatment against severe malnutrition.
- 2,021,462 beneficiaries of our programs “food security and livelihoods”.
- 3,403,611 million beneficiaries in water, hygiene and sanitation.
By integrating its programs with national and regional systems, Action against Hunger ensures that short-term interventions become long-term solutions.
