Managing Director, Positive Planet
Xavier Bertrand has worked for over 20 years in public and private organisations. He lived in India between 1996 and 2012, where he found his inspiration. Back to France in 2012, he founded his company Nayanam (whose sankrit name signifies “vision” and “leadership”), in order to place purpose and human beings at the heart of organisations, coach and consult for a change towards a new leadership, more conscious, inspired and responsible.
After studying at ESSEC, IIM Ahmedabad and EHESS, he served the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industry at the French Trade Commission from 1998 until early 2005, before becoming Managing Director of Chanel India between 2005 and 2011. He then joined hands with Sanjeev Rao in G2i Ventures working between India and France. He was nominated French Foreign Trade Advisor in 2008, a mandate that was renewed in 2013.
Since 1990s, he has been a volunteer in several not-for-profit organisations, being a co-founder of Positive Planet (new name of PlaNet Finance) in India (planetfinanceindia.org), and involved in Karuna Schechen (www.karuna-schechen.org), a foundation co-created by Matthieu Ricard which facilitates access to primary education and health services in rural area of the Himalayan regions of North India (Bihar), Nepal and Tibet. He has also been an active sponsor of Nakshatra (http://nakshatra-trust.org/what_is_nakshatra.html), a Trust that runs a community project around a school of 500 pupils in a poor district of Bangalore, and was founded by Claire and Sanjeev Rao. With the latter, he promotes in Europe the work of the Indian Foundation Head Held High (http://www.head-held-high.org).
Xavier has been studying Vedanta, the traditional philosophy of India. He practices mindfulness and is very interested in neurosciences.
He is based in Toulouse where he lives with is wife Claire, and they often travel to India, Middle East and Asia.
